Review of Massachusetts General.Hospital Level1 Trauma/Teaching hospital Pros- 1. first, ever hospital in Massachusetts where you get a guaranteed break2. Night shift parking is 10$ per month3. Access to food/drink 24/74. 1/2 the staff are travelers5. Staff is amiable 6. EPICCONS1. Ratios 1:5, but it can go as high as 1:10!!! I have worked all over Massachusetts and never have gone over 6- until I came here.2. As a traveler, you will never see Trauma even though we have more certificates than their staff; you might get to play on the acute side if you are deemed worthy3. Management is nonexistent; they don't even introduce themselves, and the only time you see them is if you do something wrong.4. In punitive management, my friend was let go. The reason she lacked clinical skills- (she forgot to waste 2 controlled substances) she has been a level 1 trauma/er nurse for 25+ years- what are you talking about, Willis? 5. So many border patients with tons of medications that you have to hunt all over the ER for not in a centralized cabinet- plus balance your ER patients too6. Parking! No parking on the day shift for travelers

I was very excited to start here, great reputation and level 1 trauma center. Alas, travelers do not get to do any Acute work. If a patient is sicker than they appeared in triage/evaluation, you may have to give up your patient to a different area of the ER, such as the Acute area. It felt like nurse’s were being robbed of learning experiences. The majority of the ER was full of boarder patients while I worked there and the ER staff was responsible for them. It never felt like an ER. Management was very hands off. Never any feedback. And it is $54/day to park there!!
