I did a 13 week stint and did not extend. I was hired onto the Lung Rescue Intensive Care Unit (fully ECMO unit).Management was very helpful with adjusting my schedule as needed, never rude and super easy to get a hold of. Floating/assignments:I was essentially used as a float nurse and it appears all of their travelers are used as so. I was even floated to med surg, step down and ER ( as a hold mostly) a number of times, however they do limit the amount of patients you receive. I floated somewhere new nearly every night, no continuity of care. The patients are relatively easy compared to where I came from, however they do have some decently sick ones and they try not to give them to travelers. I was tripled pretty often but the load wasn’t honestly as bad as I thought. Staff/Doctors:The staff was decently nice overall. Many nurses were travelers also and were probably lost also
They have an intensivist in house every night and you see them maybe once a night for general rounding but they are rarely present on your unit and are super overburdened. Most doctors have an NP with them until 2am, however they are overburdened also. They make it quite difficult to get a hold of the doctors (specialty and in-house). I had to ask for help on how to contact them nearly every time. Most of the time nurses skip the “proper channels” and just text them on the work phone number provided. Miscellaneous:Many units don’t start their shift until 7am but required to clock in at 6:45. So that sucked. Meditech in itself is confusing as heck when it comes to orders but the hospital tends to make processes way harder than they need to be, like ordering blood, doing cultures, etc.
