2025 is upon us!
If you ask us, that just seems wild. Even if you aren’t a big “resolutions” person, the new year usually causes most of us to reflect and plan a bit. Whether you are new to travel nursing, an old pro, or still in the dreaming phase–here are a few things you can consider for your New Year’s resolutions, goals, or loose plans. Or whatever you prefer to call them.
New Year’s Resolutions for Travel Nurses
Speak Up More
One of the most empowering resolutions you can make as a travel nurse is to find your voice and use it. See something in your contract you don’t like? Ask about it. Have a patient who could benefit from a specific service? Mention it to the doctor. Not in love with something at your new short-term rental? Reach out to your landlord about a solution.
As nurses, we are caretakers, and we often feel like we need to make ourselves smaller to keep everyone else content and comfortable. A resolution to speak up doesn’t mean being difficult—it means advocating for yourself and others in a way that fosters solutions. Sometimes, small changes or requests might not even be a big deal—so don’t be afraid to ask or voice your idea!
Make it to the Dream Location.
If you’ve had your eye on a specific assignment location, consider making it your 2025 resolution to get there!
Certain assignments might take a little more planning and preparation, but the longer you wait to plan it out, the longer it will take to actually get there. Start the process now: reach out to your recruiters and let them know your dream location. Get a feel for the market in that area, and map out a realistic timeline.
Making this resolution to prioritize your dream destination could lead to your most rewarding assignment yet!
Plan That Vacation
A well-deserved break should always make the list of your New Year’s resolutions. As travel nurses, you have a unique flexibility that many others don’t, but obligations and responsibilities can still get in the way.
Set a goal to carve out the time, money, and resources for your dream trip this year. Whether it’s cutting back on splurges to save up or taking a higher-paying assignment in a less desirable location, your resolution to plan will help make that getaway a reality.
Reach Out to People
Relationships can sometimes take a backseat when you’re always on the move. Make it a resolution this year to nurture your connections.
Reach out to friends and family you miss. Schedule FaceTime chats or meetups if possible. On assignment, take the lead at work by organizing social outings or simply inviting someone out for coffee. Your small efforts could spark meaningful connections and bring more joy into your year.
Be Positive
A great resolution for 2025 is to focus on maintaining a positive outlook, even when work presents challenges. Travel nursing, and nursing in general, can sometimes lead to a negative view of the world. To combat this, build routines to transition from work to home, set boundaries, and focus on things that make you happy.
Take time to reflect on your achievements and how far you’ve come. This simple but powerful resolution can remind you of the good in the world and keep you grounded in the fulfilling aspects of your career and life.
From everyone at The Gypsy Nurse, we wish you a happy and healthy New Year! We’re excited to see what 2025 has in store for you and your travel nursing journey.
