Cytotechnologist – Traveler Job Description

Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Cytotechnologist to join our team as a traveler and perform microscopic evaluations across multiple healthcare facilities. In this role, you will screen cell samples to detect cellular abnormalities, infections, and malignancies, working closely with pathologists and other laboratory staff to provide accurate diagnoses that guide patient treatment. This position requires flexibility, precision, and a commitment to quality and safety in a variety of clinical laboratory environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Microscopic Analysis: Examine and interpret cell samples, such as Pap smears and other bodily fluids, to detect signs of disease, infections, or pre-cancerous and cancerous changes.
Screening and Reporting: Identify abnormalities, record observations, and provide preliminary diagnoses to pathologists for further review.
Quality Control: Ensure all procedures meet laboratory quality standards and follow safety protocols to maintain sample integrity and accuracy.
Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of findings, observations, and patient details in compliance with healthcare regulations and facility protocols.
Communication and Collaboration: Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory staff to discuss findings, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to diagnostic decision-making.
Adaptability: Work across different laboratories, adjusting to various protocols, equipment, and facility procedures as a traveler.
Skills & Qualifications:

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to accurately detect cell abnormalities.
Proficiency in microscopy and understanding of cellular biology and pathology.
Excellent communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with pathologists.
Ability to adapt to different lab settings and travel as required.
Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology or a related field.
Certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or similar accrediting body.
Minimum of 1-2 years of cytology experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, adjusting to the protocols of various facilities.
