Job Title: Travel Histology Technician (Histology Tech)

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Histology Technician to join our team on a travel assignment. The ideal candidate will have experience preparing and analyzing tissue samples, performing histological techniques, and ensuring the accurate preparation of specimens for examination. This role involves working in various healthcare facilities, assisting pathologists and laboratory teams to provide high-quality diagnostic results.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, process, and embed tissue samples for microscopic examination.
Perform routine and specialized laboratory techniques such as cutting tissue, staining slides, and mounting specimens.
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microtomes, cryostats, and tissue processors.
Perform quality control procedures to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency of test results.
Work closely with pathologists to prepare slides and sections for diagnosis.
Handle tissue specimens following laboratory safety protocols and ensure proper specimen labeling and documentation.
Prepare and maintain tissue specimen logs and ensure compliance with laboratory procedures and regulatory standards.
Assist in the preparation of frozen sections for intraoperative consultations and perform other specialized histological tasks as required.
Travel to various healthcare facilities, assisting in the histology department and ensuring consistency in procedures across different locations.
Follow all regulatory and safety standards, including HIPAA compliance and infection control protocols.
Stay up to date on the latest histology techniques, technology, and industry trends to ensure high-quality lab work.
Qualifications:
Required:
Completion of an accredited Histology Technician program.
Certification as a Histology Technician (HT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
Active Histology Tech license or eligibility for licensure in the state of practice.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in histology, including tissue processing, embedding, cutting, and staining.
Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and proper handling of biological specimens.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a variety of clinical environments.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
ASCP certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL).
Experience working with specialized histology techniques (e.g., immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization).
Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and laboratory management software.
Previous experience as a travel histology tech is a plus.
Working Conditions:
Travel required to different healthcare facilities on a temporary basis.
Flexibility in working hours, including evening and weekend shifts as required.
Ability to adapt quickly to different laboratory settings, equipment, and procedures.
Potential for exposure to biological hazards, including blood and tissue samples, in compliance with safety protocols.
Physical demands may include standing for long periods, handling specimens, and lifting laboratory equipment.
