Laboratory Supervisor – Traveler Job Description
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and adaptable Laboratory Supervisor to join our team as a traveler, overseeing laboratory operations across multiple healthcare facilities. In this role, you will ensure lab quality standards are met, manage laboratory personnel, and collaborate with clinical teams to maintain efficient and accurate diagnostic processes. This position requires flexibility, leadership skills, and a strong understanding of laboratory protocols and quality control in a variety of clinical settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision and Management: Lead and supervise laboratory staff, including technologists, technicians, and support personnel; coordinate schedules, oversee training, and provide performance feedback.
Quality Control and Compliance: Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP); conduct audits, maintain records, and troubleshoot discrepancies.
Operational Oversight: Manage laboratory workflow, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely processing of tests and reporting of results.
Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of lab equipment to ensure operational efficiency and accuracy.
Collaboration: Work closely with medical and administrative staff to support patient care, communicating effectively regarding lab results and any operational updates.
Adaptability: Adjust to various facility protocols and laboratory environments, providing consistent leadership and quality assurance across locations.
Skills & Qualifications:
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage teams and resolve issues effectively.
In-depth knowledge of laboratory safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic health records (EHR).
Ability to adapt to new environments and manage operations in various facilities as a traveling supervisor.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Current certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the ASCP or an equivalent accrediting body.
Minimum of 3-5 years of laboratory experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
Willingness to travel and work in different clinical settings, including adapting to various shifts and facility protocols.
